Our little Lukester is turning 2 in a couple of weeks! We cannot believe how fast the time has gone. This little man brings us so much laughter and joy! Being a parent has taught me so much about my relationship with our heavenly Father. I am constantly amazed at His patience for me as I grow (and stumble!) as I learn to walk in His ways. I'm not sure how I'd get through these days without my reliance on Him and the reminders the He is in control (thank goodness!).
Luke is growing into a delightful little boy. He is still shy and timid in new situations, but warms up after a few minutes of taking it all in. He LOVES his friends and relishes in any opportunity to play with them. He is learning to share, take turns, and use kind words with others. This has definitely been a process, but I can see him making huge strides in this area! He wants to be a good boy and IS a good boy, it just takes some reminders sometimes :O). One day, before a playdate with Ben, I was reminding Luke that he needed to share his toys and play nice with his friend. I told him that Jesus wants us to share and be kind with others and since we love Jesus, we want to please him. Luke looked at me and said (in his toddler-speak), "Jesus fixed the man's eyes all better. He can see!" I was amazed that he made the connection between our conversation about Jesus to the story of him healing the blind man in Luke's children's Bible. It's these sweet moments that just melt my heart!
Our boy is definitely athletic! He loves to play any sport at any opportunity! His favorites are basketball and baseball. He shoots hoops with Kevin almost everyday has some pretty impressive skills! He also likes to swing his bat and try to hit the ball. Whether or not he makes contact with the ball, he always runs to "first base" after he swings and he is always "safe!" Isn't life great as a toddler? Luke also enjoys watching sports with Daddy and he actually pays close attention because we see changes in his form for batting and shooting after he watches some games. I see lots of sports in our future!
Luke's other passions are reading, singing, and Elmo! His favorite books are Clifford, The Truck Book, and The Busy Little Train. He loves to sing the ABC's, Baa Baa Black Sheep (where he replaces "my dame" with "my Dave"), and Jesus Loves Me. It is so sweet to hear his little voice singing. He doesn't like to sing alone, though. If we are singing together and I stop, he will stop and say, "come on, mama!" Elmo is probably Luke's best buddy. He brings his Elmo everywhere we go and plays with him all throughout the day. He even shoots hoops with Elmo. We got him this Elmo as a "practice baby" before Ella was born. We thought he could practice feeding him and burping him and pretend to change his diapers. After watching him interact with Elmo, we hope that Luke never handles his sister that way! It's a good thing that Elmo has a hard head because he flies all over the place, jumps off the couch regularly, and flips through the air! When Luke watches the movie, Elmo in Grouchland, he really believes it is real. The first time we watched it Luke cried because Elmo lost his blankey. Oh boy! He has a lot of empathy for that little red monster!
We just love our little guy to pieces! He swims like a fish and runs like a goofball and brings so much joy to our hearts!
